The National Association of Therapeutic Wilderness Camping Conference Session Descriptions Continued WORKSHOP TITLE: Seizing All Educational Opportunities Time: Tuesday 9:00 PRESENTER: Matt Losch Trips are a critical part of outdoor/wilderness therapeutic programs. These trips require a huge investment of resources, including staff labor, program funds and precious time spent counseling clients. This workshop demonstrates how to achieve maximum return on these investments. These trips are important because they provide opportunities for therapeutic gains that could not be achieved in the base camp setting. Trips also provide educational opportunities that are often left untapped. Participants of this workshop learn how to make trips as rewarding and enriching as possible by learning how to develop educational programs that synergistically intertwine with the therapeutic objectives of any trip. Using the formula presented in this workshop, participants will learn the preparation, execution and assessment that address the educational and therapeutic needs of all clients. Focus is placed in addressing the needs of a group of learners who may have diverse educational backgrounds and academic abilities through experiential education using a variety of authentic activities. The skills learned in this workshop transfer easily to any trip in any program.
