The primary purpose of NATWC is to support the establishment and continuation of therapeutic wilderness camping organizations; with the attendant responsibility to educate the public as to the existence of such organizations and their success in helping troubled young people change their lives for the better.

EDUCATION SUPERVISOR/COORDINATOR

Eckerd Youth Alternatives, Inc., a leader in therapeutic educational programs for youth-at-risk, seeks an Education Supervisor/Coordinator to join our wilderness camp in Candor, NC. Alternative education. Creative curriculum. As an Education Coordinator at one of our programs, you’ll help children go beyond the limitations of textbooks and rigid lesson plans. It’s an extraordinary opportunity to implement student curricula, ensure the development of balanced educational programs, and improve the quality of the learning process program-wide. You’ll maintain the school’s accreditation, supervise teaching staff, establish education goals for youth entering our facility, and work to reintegrate program graduates into local school systems. You’ll do more that teach them…you’ll reach them.

Bachelor’s Degree required, in education preferred. Masters Degree preferred. A minimum of two years of experience in a supervisory role or two years of teaching experience. Basic skills instruction, development and use of learning centers, experiential education, needs of exceptional students. Ability to restrain youth in accordance with approved techniques. Must interface effectively at all organization levels and have commitment to professional standards and personal development. Must meet state criminal background check requirements. PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Eckerd Youth Alternatives, a leader in alternative treatment programs for youth-at-risk, is seeking a Program Director for our outdoor therapeutic program located in Candor, NC. This is a highly responsible leadership position sharing operational and programmatic responsibility for a seven-day-per-week, round-the-clock residential program for at risk youth. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, program organization, scheduling and delivery, fiscal and personnel administration, and participation with the facility’s leadership team in development and execution of local policy and long-range planning.

Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Social Science field. Minimum 4 years directly related, paid work experience in residential programs for youth, at least one of which must have involved staff supervision, planning, scheduling, and budgeting. Experience in group-based programming and group work modalities is preferred.

Must enjoy working in the outdoors, be able to work a flexible schedule including some nights and weekends.

PINNACLE SCHOOLS NAME DIRECTORS & ACADEMIC ADMINISTRATOR

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. December 3, 2008 – The programs of The Pinnacle Schools is pleased to announce the following new staff appointments.

Zane Slocumb, L.P.C., N.C.C., D.A.P.A. has been appointed as the Clinical Director of the Elk River Wilderness Challenge, Elk River Lifestyle Challenge and Elk River Academy. Slocumb earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and English from the University of Mobile. He also holds a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from Alabama A&M University. He has provided direct care to teens and adults since 1989 in residential, outpatient, partial hospitalization and inpatient settings. He is a licensed professional counselor, a nationally certified counselor and diplomat of the American Psychotherapy Association.

Bonnie Robertson, RN, MSN, CRNP
has been named Director of Medical Services. Robertson is a Nurse Practitioner with over 25 years experience. She has specialized in wellness programming, health and physical education, cardiac rehabilitation, among many other areas of healthcare. Her credentials include American College of Sports Medicine Exercise Specialist, licensed provider of Shapedown Weight Management Programs for children & adolescents, Wilderness Advanced Life Support certification, American Heart Association BLS, PALS and ACLS certifications. Robertson played an integral role in the creation of the Elk River Lifestyle Challenge program, a new teen weight management program focusing on teaching teens and their families the importance of nutrition and exercise in their daily routine.

Ann Corley, B.A. has been named the Director of Marketing and Admissions of The Pinnacle Schools. Corley graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Marketing. She has been involved in numerous philanthropic activities including: Chairman of the Board for The Huntsville Museum of Art, member of the board of directors for the State Council for Women in the Arts, member of Women’s Advisory Board for Huntsville Hospital, Director of Adult Christian Education at Church of the Nativity, Botanical Gardens, and the Huntsville Public Library.

Carah Lynn Billups, B.A., M.A., M.Ed. has been named Academic Administrator for The Pinnacle Schools and Elk River Academy. Billups graduated from Millsaps College with a bachelor’s degree in English. She earned her master’s degrees in English and Education from Louisiana State University. Billups taught in the public schools of Louisiana and Florida before moving to Huntsville. Billups has been teaching and tutoring students for 5 years. Billups’ experience includes teaching students of all ages in multiple disciplines, as well as students with learning disabilities and other behavioral needs.
